So you’re here on beautiful St. Croix and it’s one of those dreadful 85 degree rainy days. Let’s be honest, at 85 degrees it can’t possibly be that bad! Surprisingly this January has been exceptionally rainy and if the beach is out of the question, you’re probably thinking, what am I supposed to do now?? Have no fear, St. Croix has several great options for you to explore on a rainy day!

  1. Take a Tour

Of course this involves alcohol! There are several different distilleries and breweries for you to take advantage of on a cloudy day.

Starting east to west, you can first check out Mutiny Island Vodka, located in Sion Farm. The distillery opened last summer and is creating vodka with an island twist! Breadfruit is their main ingredient and much of the breadfruit used is locally grown. Take the tour while you visit and finish with a delicious Mutiny cocktail. And don’t forget about Saturday Brunch!

Captain Morgan Rum Distillery is another great option to explore, tour and try the rum! The visitor center also offers indoor rum tastings where you can try fresh juiced cocktails Monday-Friday 10AM to 4pm and Saturday from 10AM – 1PM. Don’t forget to swing by the retail store to sport some Captain Morgan Apparel.

If you are tired of rum and ready for a beer instead, Leatherback Brewing Company has been around since 2017 serving locally brewed beer of all kinds. Whether you are a lager, IPA or Stout fan, they have you covered! Of course you can tour the facility and learn just how they make the beer from start to finish.

This next Distillery is a fan favorite! Cruzan Rum Distillery not only serves up great rum but they offer a fantastic tour. You get to experience the rum making process up close and personal and if you’re lucky, you will get to taste molasses used for making the rum, fresh off the boat!  Many of the tour guides are born and raised Crucians who know more about St. Croix and Cruzan Rum than most. The distillery was founded in 1760 and is located on the historic grounds of the sugar plantation in Estate Diamond.

  1. See a Movie!

Yes, St. Croix has a movie theater! A pretty nice one at that. Caribbean Cinemas of St. Croix opened in 2017 at Sunny Isle Shopping Center as a new state of the art movie theater. The venue features Hollywood’s newest films in eight luxurious stadium seating auditoriums with large screens fully quipped with high definition and surround sound. Along with popcorn, candy and hot dogs, you can purchase beer, wine and a variety of meal options. Check out showtimes on their website!

  1. Get a Massage!

What’s better than getting a massage in paradise? St. Croix has several options where you can wind down and relax. The Fred, The Buccaneer and Pampered VI are all great places to not only get a massage, but pamper yourself with a facial a pedicure or manicure. 4. Go Bowling!

When is the last time you went bowling? This is the perfect rainy-day distraction. Located mid-island in Castle Coakley, Tropical Ten Pins Bowling Center offers bowling 5 nights a week along with food and beverages for a good time. You can even reserve a room for your own private party. Enjoy “Rave Bowling” on Friday and Saturday nights. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to have some fun!

  1. Win Big at the Casino!

Is slots your thing? What about Blackjack or Texas Hold ‘em? Divi Carina Bay Casino on the east end of the island offers several different table and slot games for the gambler in you. Open everyday but Sunday, the casino features stateside-like gaming and rules in a beautiful Caribbean setting. If you are just a slots person, then head to Christiansted and enjoy a variety of slots games at Hotel Caravalle. It’s the only casino in downtown and is air conditioned and nestled in the old-world charm of historic Christansted. Several restaurants within walking distance. It’s worth the stop!
