ST CROIX — Step back in time with a cherished visit to one of St. Croix’s recently renovated historic estates. Located one mile from Christiansted and surrounded by lush local gardens and picturesque landscapes lies The Grange Estate. The 26-acre 18th-century property, recently acquired by Steve and Young Baker, includes a great house, an overseer’s house, a horse stable, and a village that was home to approximately 150 enslaved persons. The property was constructed in 1733 by relatives of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and was once owned by the Kings of Denmark and Count McCarthy. Notably, the estate is the former home of Hamilton’s mother, Rachel Fawcett Levine, and serves as her final resting place. The property’s architectural heritage is marked by Danish influence with the grand staircase leading to the main level of the great house, high ceilings, stone and coral-walled bedrooms, and arched window openings and passageways.
Today, The Grange is boasted as one of St. Croix’s premier venues for intimate gatherings and grand affairs. With a 200-person capacity and state-of-the-art facilities, the estate blends elegance and flexibility, making it the ideal backdrop for weddings, corporate gatherings, milestone celebrations, and more. In addition to the event space, the property is also home to Frangipangi Boutique, which features men’s and women’s fashions, ranging from clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories inspired by the beauty of St. Croix.
The Grange regularly invites the public to step back into the rich tapestry of the Caribbean’s past at its Heritage and History Luncheon. This guided tour of historical exploration of the estate grounds is followed by a Crucian buffet luncheon and takes place on select Saturdays each month. The Grange Estate also hosts various events throughout the year. The Easter Eggstravanga Egg Hunt and Brunch will be held on March 30th from 11am to 3pm, welcoming adults and children alike to the estate grounds for an Easter egg hunt in the sprawling gardens, followed by a hearty brunch spread in the opulent Great Room.
