ST THOMAS — Head to the northside of St. Thomas to feel a sense of community at seafood focused restaurant Fish Bar. Located a few minutes away from a favorite local beach, Hull Bay, Fish Bar showcases an ocean-to-table concept that is near and dear to the owners’ hearts. Angelina Torchia, Kenny Claxton, and Tyler Beckstead opened the restaurant in July 2022 to create a space that welcomed everyone and had something for everyone to enjoy. Whether off the beach or dressed up for a night out, anyone can enter through the doors at 15 Hull Bay Road and expect the same thing — a casual, clean space serving plates locally sourced and fresh, thanks to the island’s farmers and fishermen. At Fish Bar, they are fresh catch-focused with a fast-casual concept true to St. Thomas’s Northside.
A quick look at their menu highlights ‘Tails and Bites, revealing the precise detail and attention that was put forth to create it. The ‘Tails menu features the robust cocktail program created by co-owner Tyler Beckstead. No drink is too simple or too complicated — from a rum and Coke or a cold Heineken to a creative cocktail like the Green Flash made with tequila, avocado, cucumber, citrus blend, cilantro, and red alaea salt. Throughout the ‘Tails menu, guests will notice an array of infusions, shrubs, and fresh-squeezed juices, which are all made in-house daily.
The Bites menu is divided into three sections: Dips N Snacks, Crudos, and Plates. Try their ceviche, made with the citrus-cured daily fresh catch, or dive into their baked oysters topped with sofrito butter, manchego crumble, and grilled lemon. You can’t get any fresher than Fish Bar’s crudos. Each one is beautifully prepared by Executive Chef and partner Kenny Claxton, and Executive Sous Chef Yenifer Ortiz. Go with the daily fresh catch and choose from preparation styles like Passion Fruit, Peruvian, or Aguachile, to name a few. You can even add on a side of sushi rice and nori seaweed wraps to make your own sushi-style wraps. A crowd favorite is their lobster mac and cheese, made with poached local lobster, gouda and manchego cheeses, panko breadcrumbs, and white truffle oil. To get a taste of all the Fish Bar favorites, stop by during their happy hour from 3pm to 5pm to try an assortment of dishes before settling on one.
Fish Bar is open Wednesday to Sunday from 3pm to 9pm. Reservations are not available, as guests are served on a first come, first serve basis. Pro tip: Head there for happy hour and dine in early to beat the dinner rush and guarantee a spot on the patio that overlooks Hull Bay. For more information, visit their website at www.fishbarvi.com.
