St. Croix is the “spice” of the Virgin Islands and over the past few years our island home has emerged as the epicurean island of the US Virgin Islands. One of the most unique dining experiences, located up in the hills of the rainforest at Ridge to Reef Farm in the Caledonia Valley, serves up a night of feasting that you will never forget! Slow Down Dinners at Ridge to Reef Farm are scheduled around a fruitful harvest featuring local chefs, fishermen, and other farms across the island. This six-course dining experience is set in the most romantic atmosphere amongst nature under a canopy of stars at the farm’s porch, each table decorated with candle light and handpicked flowers from the surrounding gardens. You can even find yourself sharing a table with a local, visitor, one of the farmers or a local fisherman!
Each course is “crafted with farm fresh food, grown, harvested, and prepared with love on St. Croix”! Between each course enjoy presentations and stories by the farmers and local fishermen themselves.
We would suggest getting to the farm a little early to experience the pre-dinner farm tour lead by one of the farmers or even one of the owners themselves. This guided tour is an educational, hands-on learning experience about St. Croix’s native plants. You will learn how to identify these plants, which plants are edible, and even their medicinal purposes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and light clothing.
Since the dinners are planned around a fruitful harvest, there is not a set schedule. So if you happen to land on St. Croix during a slow down dinner, it’s your lucky day! This rare occasion is happening again this weekend – TWICE! This Saturday, May 25, 2019 and Sunday, May 26, 2019, you will have a chance to dine on the farm’s porch and enjoy a six plated course of farm fresh food prepared by Chef Andrew Thaldorf & Co. Per Ridge to Reef Farm’s Facebook event page “he will be crafting original farm-fresh dishes with local ingredients to include tomatoes, field pumpkins, carrots, cucumbers, greens, herbs, fruits of the season, livestock, and other special selections from fellow farms across the island”.
BYOB – coolers are welcome. Be sure to pack your favorite island drink to sip on! Why not bring a couple different bottles of wine for pairing with each course and sharing with your table-mates?
The evening ends with a bonfire under the night sky featuring a live fire dancing performance!
