UPDATE: Since our below post on March 20, 2017, we have learned that the “man overboard demonstration” has been postponed to Monday, March 27, and the VI Port Authority says they need another week to process the paperwork. Warren Mosler is hopeful for an April 4 start day for the St. Croix – St. Thomas ferry.
Last week, Warren Mosler posted an update on Facebook saying that one final test is the only thing standing in the way of his new ferry between St. Croix and St. Thomas. A “man overboard demonstration” is scheduled for this Friday, March 24, and service could begin as soon as Monday, March 27!
Mosler also shared the planned daily schedule, including two round trips between Gallow’s Bay STX and Charlotte Amalie STT:
Leaving STX at 7am, arriving STT at 9am
Leaving STT at 9:30am, arriving STX at 11:30am
Leaving STX at 1pm, arriving STT at 3pm
Leaving STT at 3:30pm, arriving STX at 5:30pm
The last we heard, the ferry will cost $50 one-way. It will accommodate 54 pasengers inside and have some outside standing room in the rear.
According to an article in the VI Consortium, “Mr. Molser has credited his love for the Virgin Islands as his driving force for wanting to provide the service in an attempt to facilitate cheaper travel between the islands. He has expended over $2 million in the project.
