From the hillsides on the north side of St. Thomas, Magens Bay takes shape in a single line: a horseshoe of white sand, green hills rising on both sides, and water that moves through shades of blue over a sandy bottom. That shoreline has been a public park for eighty years, since Arthur S. Fairchild donated much of the beach and 58 acres in 1946. Magens Bay homes for sale sit on the surrounding estates, including Peterborg, where Eternity Villa has an unobstructed view over the bay to its white sand beach.

Why Magens Bay Draws Buyers and Visitors Year After Year

Two peninsulas hold the bay, and the sand continues under the water, so the seafloor deepens gradually. Sea grape trees and coconut palms line the shore, mahoganies gather on the left side, pelicans work the surface and turtles come up for air. Yachts ride at their moorings, a few small fishing boats lie off the far right, and Outer Brass Island holds the horizon.

Fairchild asked that Magens Bay be kept as a public park, and the Magens Bay Authority keeps it that way today, along with the Magens Bay Watershed Preserve and a nature trail through the Coconut Grove. The inner bay is a marked swim area kept clear of boats. Visitors and residents return to it year after year, and buyers on the surrounding hillsides live above it.
