A New Chapter, Deep Roots

We’re delighted to share a story that’s especially meaningful to our team — the sale and transformation of The Cove St. Croix on St. Croix’s north shore. Our involvement began when we supported the original owners in the sale of the property. At that time, the hotel was owned by a couple whose background set a strong foundation: the husband, an architect and former director of planning and construction at the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority, and the wife, a university chancellor who wanted to create something deeply rooted in the island’s character.
Built in 2007 as the former “Arawak Bay Inn at Salt River”, the original design incorporated architectural detail and durability — balconies, generous structure, long breezy views. | GoToStCroix.com+2Uncommon Caribbean+2 Our team was proud to be part of that initial sale — supporting the owners, honoring the build quality, and setting the stage for what the property would become.
The Glow-Up: Reimagined With Purpose
What excites us most, though, is the rebirth of the hotel under its new ownership. In 2024 the property was purchased by Martha Bremer and Doug Bremer, who relocated from Minnesota to embrace the island lifestyle and lead a full reimagination of the hotel. | GoToStCroix.com+1
Their vision is beautifully articulated: “The Cove Hotel St. Croix is more than a boutique stay. It’s a living canvas of our journey: hand-picked details from global female creators, spaces that honor authenticity, and a spirit of purpose woven through every corner.” | GoToStCroix.com+1
Here are some of the standout elements of the redesign that we love:
- Curated art & design with story. The new owners intentionally sourced décor and artwork from women-entrepreneurs around the world (Bulgaria, France, Lithuania, California) and locally on St. Croix. The Cove St. Croix+1
- Modern comfort meets island serenity. The redesign emphasizes all-suite, all-ocean-view accommodations, elevated finishes, and details that signal high-touch hospitality. | GoToStCroix.com
- Group-friendly, intimate luxury. The property now markets itself for full buy-outs or retreats (up to 36 guests), showcasing how design, layout and amenities are leveraged to serve both individuals and groups. The Cove St. Croix+1
- Brand reinvention with purpose. Not just a facelift: the new ownership has repositioned the hotel as a design-driven boutique, intentionally aligned with island lifestyle, mindful travel and authenticity.
From our vantage in real-estate and hotel investment, this is a case study worth celebrating. A quality foundation — solid architecture, strong build — combined with a visionary redesign unlocks value, drives differentiation and ultimately elevates guest experience. The original owners built with integrity; the new owners have taken that shell and infused it with fresh identity and purpose.
For us, having been part of the original sale means seeing full-circle: from the architect-led build to the reimagined boutique hotel. It’s a narrative of legacy, renewal and design-forward hospitality.
The Cove St. Croix stands now as a beautifully transformed gem on the north shore. Our team is honored to have been part of its journey — from the early transaction to witnessing its magnificent glow-up. The story speaks to what can happen when vision meets structure, and when design is used intentionally to create experience.
