The Dominican Republic flag flew over Government House, as the Fourth Annual Dominicanos Parade made its way through the streets of Christiansted.
After the parade, an evening of concerts took place at the David C. Canegata Recreational Center and Sports Complex, in honor of Dominican Independence Day.
An enthusiastic crowd of People, some of who are lucky enough to live in REAL ESTATE ST CROIX began lining up along King and Hospital Street hours ahead of the start time, many carrying small Dominican flags.
“People think it’s a celebration for Santo Domingo, but this is a celebration for Cruzan Dominicanos,” exclaimed Milagros Pena, a member of the Comite de Accion Dominicana.
At the front of the parade, men carried the Dominican, Virgin Island, and United States flags in a sign of unity.
Bringing up the rear of the procession was the Ballet Folklorico Dominicano, a traditional dance troupe, with the young dancers decked out in red, white and blue attire.
The parade wound slowly through the town, eventually reaching its final destination at the ballpark in mid afternoon.
