The Ghana visit was organized by the schools Anthropology Club adviser – Duane Howell and the students it is designed to be a two fold educational experience when the students will have the chance to trace their ancestry back to families or tribes in Ghana, and compare life in the West African nation to life on St Croix.

Education Commissioner LaVerne Terry said in a statement – “It is gratifying to witness the initiative, energy and enthusiasm displayed by Central High Schools Anthropology Club members as they organized and prepared for their journey to Ghana.”

The Club spent several months organizing and hosting fund-raising events – like concerts, walk-a-thons and Saturday car washes so that they could raise funds for the special trip.
