Saturday officially marked the beginning of the Cruzan Christmas holiday season on St Croix, which lasts until Jan. 9, with the lighted boat parade in Christiansted. About 15 boats participated with fireworks creating a festive atmosphere.

Other highlights include street decorations provided by the Gentlement of Jones in Christiansted, a group of about 50 from all ages and professions.

Christmas Spoken Here was held at the St George Botantical Gardens Dec. 5. Businesses decorated themed trees for auction, several school choirs perform, and arts and craft vendors offer Christmas wares.

Christmas Village is created in Frederiksted, where the parades are held (Jan 7-8, 2011). There is also a calypso competition, crowning of Miss St Croix and her prince and princess.

Individual celebrations include those for Kwanza, Chanukah, a Hispanic observance, and the Friends of Denmark Christmas party. It’s a great time of year with fun for all!
