New power bills that factor in recently-approved changes in the Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause (LEAC) rates will soon be sent out, according to the V.I. Water and Power Authority (WAPA).
Public Services Commission members have approved a reduction in the electric LEAC, from the current $0.249 per kilowatt hour to $0.239. The new rate will shave $4.67 – or 2.7% – off the average bill of residential customers using 500 kilowatt hours per month, bringing it down to about $168.15.
The PSC voted to increase the water LEAC rate from the current $10.04 per thousand gallons to $11.68, adding about $3.93 to the average residential customer’s bill, bringing it up to about $75.04.
The new rates were made retroactive to Dec. 1 and will be in effect until March 31.
Prior to the decision, WAPA had mailed out approximately 13,000 water and electric bills that included the old rates. Newly-adjusted bills will be sent to replace these, with new billing and payment dates reflected.
This is great news for residents of St Croix!
