From the Associated Press (via St Croix Lime), “National parks in the U.S. Virgin Islands are set to receive $1.7 million in federal funds for upgrades and repairs. The islands’ congressional delegate says the money will be used for 14 projects.
“Donna Christensen said that Buck Island in St. Croix will receive the largest cut. Nearly $1 million will be used to repair storm-damaged trails, a shoreline and pier. Christiansted National Park will receive almost half a million dollars to preserve historic sites including a steeple, warehouse and customs house.
“The U.S.-based National Parks Conservation Association said last year that historic sites in the U.S. Virgin Islands were in danger of disappearing because of lack of funds and poor maintenance.”
