Camping activities on St Croix are family traditions for many, at locations like Cramer Park, Altona Lagoon, Arawak Bay, Salt River, Dorsch Beach, Cane Bay and others. Some have been camping out for more than 30 years. the VI Housing, Parks & Rec Department is preparing for hundreds of campers.
The usual precautions are being urged by the fire department to keep children away from cooking areas and campfires, using the right fuel for the stove and not gasoline – things like that. Fires will be allowed on the beaches, but the Fire Service hopes most will use the BBQ pits.
The burning permit ban is still in effect and the brush very dry. Campers should be very careful when discarding hot coals. Have fun but be careful!
